Newsletter Guidelines

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Members and non-members of Fungimap are welcome to publish in the Fungimap Newsletter.

Authors submitting manuscripts are responsible for obtaining the copyright holder’s permission to reproduce any material for which the author does not hold copyright. Fungimap currently has two publication streams the Fungimap Newsletter and the Fungimap Blog.

Fungimap Newsletter

Articles submitted for publication in the Fungimap Newsletter should not be submitted to any other journal or newsletter awaiting publication or have been previously published in another Newsletter or journal.

Articles should be no more than 800 words, news items no more than 500 words. Articles are preferred that have at least one image.

Text files should be submitted as word documents or rich text files. Images should be submitted as separate files even if they are also included within word documents. See Images and Copyright sections for details more details.

Fungimap Blog

The lengths of Blog articles are not restricted in the blog but it is asked that there be about an image or figure for every 150-300 words. For articles that are longer than 500 words a synopsis paragraph (abstract) is appreciated. This should summarise within 150-200 words: who, what, when, where, how and why.

Text files should be submitted as word documents or rich text files. Images should be submitted as separate files even if they are also included within text documents. See Images and Copyright sections for details more details.

Copyright

Authors submitting manuscripts are responsible for obtaining the copyright holder’s permission to reproduce any material for which the author does not hold copyright. Copyright forms for images are available from the Fungimap website.

 

NOTE. If articles submitted for publication in the Fungimap Newsletter have been previously published please let us know when and where material was published and have contacted the publication to check that they will allow reprint.

The editors may suggest to authors that their papers be refereed where valuable external feedback may be available, especially for comprehensive treatments or new records. There will be one or two referees who would be anonymous. Articles submitted for review should not have been published elsewhere. We also welcome popular science articles that are synopsis of scientific papers.

Images

 

Images should preferably be jpg or tiff resolution at least:

  • Colour images 300 dpi and submitted so size is at least 8 cm (302 pixels)
  • Black and white 600 dpi (800 preferred dpi) and submitted so size is at least 8 cm (302 pixels)

Fungimap prefers to use Creative Commons licensing. This recognises you as the copyright holder form images. Preferred license for Fungimap use is Creative Commons - Attribution - Share Alike 3.0. If you do not want to use a creative commons license please send us an email with details of the permission of use, stating that images may be used in the Fungimap Newsletter and Blog.

 

Record details for images

Where possible record details, particularly for images in articles should be submitted or if records have already been submitted to Fungimap please tell us the date records were submitted.  How to submit records (detailsof when, where and by whom the fungi were observed) should also be submitted using the forms on the Fungimap Website.
